Question 617784: This is actually a word problem. Please help me solve this equation and go through step by step how to solve it if I have another question: A medium orange has 70 calories. This is 10 calories less than one fourth of the calories in a Sugar Krunchy. How many calories are in a sugar Krunchy. Sorry I have this in an exam tomorrow.
Answer by Theo(13342)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
medium orange has 70 calories.
this is 10 calories less than 1/4 the calories in a sugar krunchy.
how many calories are in a sugar krunchy.
let x = the amount of calories in a sugar krunchy.
70 calories is 10 calories less than 1/4 times the calories in a sugar krunchy.
this means that 70 calories is 10 calories less than 1/4 * x
this means that 70 = 1/4 * x - 10
solve for x.
add 10 to both sides of the equation to get:
80 = 1/4 * x
multiply both sides of the equation by 4 to get:
320 = x
the sugar krunchy has 320 calories.
the medium orange has 10 calories less than 1/4 times 320.
1/4 times 320 = 320/4 = 80
10 less than 80 = 70
answer is that the sugar krunchy has 320 calories.
