0.004x + 0.5 = 3.05
If you absolutely hate decimals, multiply everything by 1000 to clear the decimals.
1000(0.004x+0.5)=1000(3.05)
4x+500=3050
4x+500-500=3050-500
4x=2550
4x/4=2550/4

If decimals don't bother you too much:
0.004x+0.5-0.5=3.05-0.5
0.004x=2.55
0.004x/0.004=2.55/0.004
