These are also tripping me up:

What i've noticed is that they want the answers in scientific notation format...

= 8.6E-5

8.6E-5 * 1.2E10 = 8.6*1.2E5
= 10.32E5
= 1.032E6
To 1 digit = 1E6
or

2E8*6E4 = 12E12
= 1.2E13
--> 1E13
