Over the past week 34 baby boys were born at the hospital. this was a 54 percent of all the babies born. how many girls were born over the past week?

34 baby boys make up 54% of the babies born.

So if x is the total number of babies, then

Percent/100 = Part/Whole

54/100 = 34/x

Now solve for x

54/100 = 34/x

54x = 34*100

54x = 3400

x = 3400/54

x = 62.96296

Round this value to the nearest whole number (since you can't have a fraction of a person) to get x = 63

So there are 63 babies total.

Now let y = number of girls born. This means that y baby girls make up 46% of the babies born (since 54% + 46% = 100% or 100 - 54 = 46)

Therefore, we can say that

Percent/100 = Part/Whole

46/100 = y/63

Now solve for y

46/100 = y/63

46*63 = 100y

2898 = 100y

2898/100 = y

28.98 = y

y = 28.98

Round this to the nearest whole number (you can't have a fractional amount of girls) to get y = 29

So 29 girls were born over the past week.
