I need to solve the following problem and show the equation used for the solution:
In a town election, the winning candidate had 220 more votes than the loser. If 810 votes were cast in all, how many votes did each candidate receive?

Let "x" be the number of votes the loser had.
Then the winner had "x+220".
EQUATION:
x+x+220=810
2x+220=810
x+110=405
x=295 (number of votes for the loser)
x+220=515 (numbe of votes for the winner)
