Question 57933: I am a first year algebra student in the eighth grade. I am having a great deal of difficulty in this subject as I am not able to pull higher than a C on a test and sometimes I do worse than that. I am doing a study guide right now for a test I am supposed to take tomorrow but I am stuck. Could you please help me in explaining the steps of this equation? THis is not from a textbook. It is from a worksheet/studyguide.
12g-2g=250
I think I would do this,
12g - 2g = 250
12 x g - 2 x g = 250
This is where I am confused, would it be (12 x g) - 2 - (2 x g) - 2 =250
and then (12 x g) - g =250
Now I am not sure what comes next....could you please help me.....I have many more to do on this worksheet to be handed in tomorrow but more importantly, I will have this type of problem on the test. Thank you for any help you can give me.
Answer by tutorcecilia(2152) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
12g-2g=250 [Combine like-terms (example, combine all of the g's)]
10g=250
10/10g=250/10
g=25
.
Check by plugging (g=25) back into the original equation]
12(25)-2(25)=250
300-50=250
250=250 [Checks out]
