Question 564397: A girl donates $1,000 to UNICEF. She is now giving $5 a week to UNICEF. After "x" weeks she will have donated "y" dollars. What is the equation relating "y" to "x"?

$1,000 is the initial payment at t=0 (the "intercept"). The $5/wk is a rate (or slope) of the giving equation. Thus, y=5x+1000. For future reference, you might want to donate directly next time, rather than through the United Nations. ;)
