Question 543455: I sometimes forget to write my equation without the 1 in front of the variable and my teacher marks it wrong. After showing all my work and getting the right equation I get the problem wrong! Is it wrong to write 1x + 5y = 6 instead of x + 5y = 6?

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
1x = x for all values of x, so 1x is the same as x. However, it's considered more simplified to write x instead of 1x.
