I need to solve and show proof the following equation:
5x + 8 + 3x -x + 5 = 6x -3

Combine like terms on the left side to get 7x+13=6x-3. Subtract 6x from both sides to get x+13=-3. Finally subtract 13 from both sides to get x=-16.
