A bamboo tree grew 3 in. per day .Write and solve and equation
to find how many days d it took the tree to grow 144 in.
equation  3d = 144   Soultion      d = 48

For what values of y is each equation:

-5|y|= -25

Divide both sides by -5

  -5|y|      -25
--------- = -----
   -5         -5

      |y| = 5

y can either = 5 or -5 and its absolute
value will be 5, so there are two solutiona

   y = 5 and y = -5

Both solutions can be written at the same
time with this shorthand notation:

          y = ±5
