Question 52985: 5(x – 1) = 3x + 8
Answer by askmemath(368)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
5(x – 1)
This implies that every term with the brackets(in this case x and -1) should be multiplied with every term immediately outside the bracket(in this case 5)
So you get 5x -5
5x -5 = 3x + 8
Subtracting 3x on both sides
2x-5 = 8
Adding 5 on both sides
2x = 13
Dividing by 2 on both sides
X = 13/2
This is you answer :-)
