1st you must get rid of that -4 in the numerator!!! Multiply both sides by -4. Your problem now reads u + 12 = -20 ----> u = -32 . A note to you - remember to always try and get rid of numerators by multiplying (to get 1). Multiply on both sides of the equation - then figure the problem as usual!!
