Question 520063: A car leaves a house in Atlanta at 8:00a.m. Traveling at an average speed of 45mph.
A van leaves the same house at 10:00a.m. Traveling at an average speed of 60mph.
In how many hours will the van catch up with the car?
Answer by mananth(16946) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Car speed 45 mph
Van speed 60 mph
Car speed 08:00
Van speed 10:00
Difference in time= 02:00 => 2 hours
Car speed will have covered 90 miles before van starts
catch up distance= 90 miles
catch up speed = 60 -45 mph
catch up speed = 15 mph
Catchup time = catchup distance/catch up speed
catch up time= 90 / 15
catch up time= 6 hours
They will meet at 10:00
Van speed speed = 60 mph
Time to catch up = 6 hours
