Hello,
Let's first get rid of the fractions. Multiply by 2y
9/2+5/2y=2y-4 to get:
9y+5=4y^2-8y
Move it all to one side:
4y^2-17y-5
Use quadratic formula
x = (17 +- sqrt( 289+80))/(8)
x= (17+3sqrt41)/8
x= (17-3sqrt41)/8
Make sense?
