Question 499644: Solve by the elimination method 5r-2s=0 2r+5s=29
Answer by Flannery(124) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
equation 1: 5r-2s=0
equation 2: 2r+5s=29
set your equations by multiplication so that one variable has opposite coefficients.
2(5r-2s=0)
-5(2r+5s=29)
now:
10r-4s=0
-10r-25s=-145
subtract equation 2 from equation 1 to eliminate the variable r.
-29s=-145
s=5
put the value of the variable you solved for into one of the origional equations and solve for the other variable.
5r-10=0
5r=10
r=2
check by putting both values you found into both equations.
5(2)-2(5)=0
10-10=0
0=0
2(2)+5(5)=29
4+25=29
29=29
