Question 476568: Veeru says to Jay, "Can you figure out how many Eggs I have in my bucket?" He gives 3 clues to Jay: If the number of Eggs I have
1. is a multiple of 5, it is a number between 1 and 19
2. is not a multiple of 8, it is a number between 20 and 29
3. is not a multiple of 10, it is a number between 30 and 39
How many Eggs does Veeru have in his bucket?

Answer by ccs2011(207)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Assume N is multiple of 5, therefore not a multiple of 8.
However, this leads to a contradiction N cannot both be between 1 and 19 and between 20 and 29.
Conclude then that N is not a multiple of 5.
If N is not a multiple of 5 then we can assume N is not a multiple of 10.
Since every multiple of 10 is also a multiple of 5.
Conclude that N is between 30 and 39.
However to avoid contradiction with statement 2. we must also conclude that N is a multiple of 8.
The only multiple of 8 between 30 and 39 is 32.
Therefore conclude that N is 32.
Veeru has 32 eggs in his bucket.
