Question 466431: Not sure how to write this on here, but the equation is: find the value of x. x-3 over 4 minus 1 is equal to x minus 5 over 4. help??
Its written as a fraction. when i say "over" thats what i mean. I'd really like to know how to do this. I think it can also be down like this though:
(x-3)/5-1=(x-5)/4

Since the LCD is 20 multiply the equation by 4

4x-12-20 = 5x-25
4x-5x=12+20-25
-x=7
x=-7

Combine like terms

Subtract x on both sides, they cancel
