Question 440774: -24x + 4y = 4
-6x + y = -1
what are the steps to working this out?
is the system inconsistent, dependent or neither?

Answer by jorel1380(3719)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
-24x+4y=4
-6x+y=-1
-----------
y=-1+6x=6x-1
-24x+4(6x-1)=4
-24x+24x-4=4
-4=4
This system is incosistent--that is, to say, both equations cannot be true for all x,y..
