First you decide which variable you want to eliminate. I' am going to eliminate the x's. by adding like terms in the two equations. the coefficent needs to be opposite. So i am gonna multiply the first equation by -2. So the equation will then will be -4x+12y=-6. Now we can elimainate the x's
-4x+12y=-6
4x+9y=-1
the x's will cancel then u will have 21y=-7
divide by 21 the answer is -1/3.
Now subsititue -1/3 for y in either equation.
4x+9(-1/3)=-1
4x-3=-1
4x=2
x=1/2.
so the order pair is (1/2,-1/3)
Now go back and check by subsituting the order pair back into either equation.
4(1/2)+9(-1/3)=-1
-1=-1
Yes it checks
