Question 382703: what is the solution set of 2x^3-3x^2-11x+6=0 and 1/2 is one root
Answer by richard1234(7193) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
I don't think I'll solve this one since it is actually quite time-consuming, but I'll give you the best method to solve it:
Since 1/2 is a root, we can factor out (x - 1/2) and obtain
where a,b,c are constants. To solve for a, b, c you'll have to use either long division or synthetic division, whichever you prefer.
After finding a,b,c you'll obtain a quadratic which can then be solved using the quadratic formula (or by factoring if the problem works nicely).
