From
4x + y = 14
x + 5y = 13
let us solve the first one for y and plug it in to the second one
y = -4x + 14
Then
x + 5(-4x + 14) = 13
x - 20x + 70 = 13
-19x = -57
x = 3
Then
y = -4(3) + 14
y = 2
