Question 376726: Find a positive value for k for which the polynomial can be factored. x^2-ky+29
Answer by robertb(5830) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
There's a little catch here: IF you're looking for the the factorization of
into linear factors having INTEGER COEFFICIENTS, then there are only two answers: k = 30 or -30.
But if you allow factorization with REAL COEFFICIENTS, then the discriminant would yield , so that k should come from the set ( , ).
