Question 367499: saline (saltwater)solutions are often used for sore throats. a nurse has a saline solution that is 34% salt and the rest water. she also has a 61% saline solution. she wants to use a 50% solution with a particulas patient without wastin the existin solutions. hwo manyu milliliters (mL)of each solution would be needed in order to obtain 120mL of a mixture that is 50% salt?
Answer by robertb(5830) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
0.34x + 0.61(120-x) = 0.50*120,
0.34x + 73.2-0.61x = 60,
-0.27x = -13.2,
x = 48.89 ml of the 34% saline solution, and
120-x = 71.11 ml of the 61% saline solution.
