Question 314877: The question asks to identify the type of equation. Conditional, inconsistent, or identity.
Problem: 2(1/2x + 3/2) - 7/2 = 3/2(x + 1) - (1/2x + 2)
I don't understand how the answer comes out to 2x - 1 = 2x -1 which means the equation is identity. Please explain step by step how this is the answer.
Thank you.

Multiply both sides by 2.
Distribute the 4 on the left hand side.
Simplify
Distribute the 3 and 2 on the right hand side.
