Question 307400: An open box is to be made from a square piece of material by cutting 2 cm squares from each corner and turning up the sides. The volume of the finished box is to be 200 cubic centimeters. Find the size of the original piece of material.

the depth of the box is 2 cm, so the area of the base is 200/2 or 100

a square with an area if 100 has a side of √100 or 10

adding in the two 2cm corners gives a side of 14 for the original material
