we want to get the variable "c" on one side of the "=" sign
ADD 3c to both sides [-3c+3c=0 , 2c+3c=5c]
add 2 to both sides [8+2=10 , -2+2=0]
divide each side by 5 [10/5=2 , 5/5=1]

8 - 3c = 2c - 2
8 = 5c - 2
10 =5c
10/5=5c/5
2 = c
8 - 3c = 2c - 2
8 - 3(2) = 2(2) -2
8 - 6 = 4 - 2

you must combine like terms with the variable on one side and remember what you do to one side you must do to the other side.
