Question 27743: -3x+2(-23+5x)=-11
Answer by sdmmadam@yahoo.com(530) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Solve -3x+2(-23+5x)=-11
-3x+2(-23+5x)=-11
-3x+[2X(-23)+ 2X(5x)]= -11 (drawing the 2 inside that is multiplying each of the terms in the bracket by the 2 outside)
-3x +[-46+10x] = -11
-3x -46 +10x = -11
-3x+10x = -11+46 (bringing -46 from LHS to RHS, change side then change sign)
7x = 35
x = 35/7 = 5
Answer: x = 5
Verification:
Putting x=5 in the equation,
LHS= -3x+2(-23+5x)
= (-3)X5 + 2X[-23 + 5X5]
= -15 +2X(-23+25)
= -15 +2X(2)
=-15+4
= -11 = RHS
