Hello,
Here's a hint: we want to get the letter (x) all alone on one side of the = sign. The trick is:
5x+7=-3x-5 Add 3x to both sides and we get:
8x+7=-5 Now subtract 7 from both sides to result in:
8x=-12 With me so far? OK, Now divide both sides by 8 to get:
x=-12/8 or rewritten as -1 1/2
To see if this is right plug the answer into the original equation.
Make sense?
