Write a polynomial to express the monthly cost of the phone plan if 'x' minutes of long-distance time are used per month. What is the degree of the polynomial?
I don't know if I'm going in the right direction, would I make an equation like this?
19.95 + .05x

You are correct. However, you'll most likely see it as (ie the terms are in descending degree). Because the largest exponent is 1, the degree of is 1.
