I think this is the original equation
(i)
step 1 - multiply both sides by (x+2)^2 to get
(ii) x^2 = 4x(x+2) -4(x+2)^2}}}
step 2 - expand both sides and combine like terms to get
(iii)
step 3 - set = 0 and solve by factoring steps to get
(iv)
step 4 - factored we get
(v)
step 5 - solved for x we get
x = -4.
