Question 255644: A small shop owner counts his $1 and $10 bills at the end of a day. He finds that he has a total of 74 bills
having a combined monetary value of $326. Letting x represent the number of $1 bills and y represent
the number of $10 bills:
(i)write a system of two linear equations to represent the given information.
(i)Find the number of bills of each denomination that he has.

A small shop owner counts his $1 and $10 bills at the end of a day. He finds that he has a total of 74 bills
having a combined monetary value of $326. Letting x represent the number of $1 bills and y represent
the number of $10 bills:
(i)write a system of two linear equations to represent the given information.
Quantity Equation: t + o = 74
Value Equation:: 10t + 1o = 326
--------------------------------------
(i)Find the number of bills of each denomination that he has.
Subtract the 1st equation from the 2nd and solve for "t":
9t = 252
t = 28 (# of $10 bills)
---
Substitute into t+o=74 to solve for "o":
28+o = 74
o = 46 (# of $1 bills)
