what are the steps to solving a=bc/b+c for b
:
a =
Multiply both sides by (b+c)
a(b+c) = bc
ab + ac = bc
Subtract ab from both sides
ac = bc - ab
Factor out b
ac = b(c - a)
Divide both sides by (c-a)
= b

what are the steps to solving a=bc/b+c for b

Multiply both sides by (b+c):
a*(b+c) = bc
divide both sides by c:
(a*(b+c))/ c = b or
(ab*ac)/c = b

First clear the fraction by multiplying both sides by b+c:

Now, to solve for b, you have to get all the "b" terms on one side. There are two ways to do this that give slightly different but both equivalent answers. I recommend that you get the ab term to the right side by subtracting ab from each side:

The next step is to get the "b" in one place, by factoring the b on the right side:

Finally, divide both sides by (c-a):
