Question 24791: Im not sure what I did wrong because my signs are different than the answers.
equation a(p-3t)=d, solve for t
I did:
ap-3ta=d
-3ta=d-ap
my answer: t= d-ap/-3a
the answer: t=ap-d/3a
Why do the signs change and does the order of the terms have to be in a certain order?

Answer by stanbon(75887)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
You have to see that -(a-b)= (b-a)
So, when you divide your answer by -3a the
negative sign causes the switch you refer to.
Hope this helps.
Cheers,
stan H.
