A jet plane traveling at 570 mph overtakes a propeller driven that has a 2.8 hour head start. The propeller driven plane is traveling at 150 mph. How far from the starting point does the jet overtake the propeller driven plane?

In 2.8 hours the prop plane goes 420 miles (150*2.8)
The jet gains on it at 420 mph (570 - 150) so it catches it in 1 hour
(420 mph/420 miles).
In one hour, the jet goes 570 miles, so it's 570 miles away.

150*(t+2.8)=x
570*t=150(t+2.8)
570t=150t+150*2.8
divide by 10
57t=15t+15*2.8
subtract 15t
42t=15*2.8
divide by 3
14t=5*2.8
14t/2.8=5
(2*7)t/(.4*7)=5
2t/.4=5
1t/.2=5
multiply by .2
1t=5*.2
1t=1
t=1
570*1=570 miles
