Problem:

We need common denominators to deduct one fraction from the other.
So we multiply the first fraction by 1 (same as 8/8), and the second fraction by 1 (same as 3/3).

Now we have the same denominators.

Now perform the deduction, we get:

p 3p
___ - ____ = 5
3 8
p/3-3p/8=5 find the common denominator for the fractions & combine them.
(8p-3*3p)/3*8=5
(8p-9p)/24=5 combine the p terms & cross multiply.
-p=5*24
-p=120
p=-120 ans.
Proof:
-120/3-3*-120/8=5
-40+360/8=5
-40+45=5
5=5
