If (x-1/x)=5, then square both sides and get this:
%28x-1%2Fx%29%5E2=25
x%5E2+-2%2Ax%2A%281%2Fx%29%2B1%2Fx%5E2=25
x%5E2-2%2B1%2Fx%5E2=25
Add +2 to each side:
x%5E2%2B1%2Fx%5E2=27
