Question 237354: Find all integers m which y^2 + my + 50 can be factored
Answer by rapaljer(4671)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
First list all products of integers that equal 50 beginning with 1:

1*50
2*25
3 Doesn't work
4 Doesn't work
5*10
6, 7, 8, and 9 don't work
10*5 is the same as you already have.

So the combinations are 1*50, 2*25, and 5*10.

The SUMS of these numbers must equal the middle term, which is "my". So these numbers must be 1+50=51, 2+25= 27, and 5+10=15. Also, the numbers could be negative, so the final answers are
{51, 27, 15, -15, -27, and -51}.
