What is the translation of the statement"w is greater than -3 and less than 4"?
A}-3
B}-3>w>4
C}-34
D}-3>w<4
w > -3 is the same as -3 < w
here's how that would be derived:
w > -3
Add 3 to both sides of this equation and subtract w from both sides of this equation to get:
3 > -w
Multiply both sides of this equation by -1 to get:
-3 < w ***************************************************************
The inequaity reverses when you multiply both sides of the equation by -1.
Now take the second half of your equation as given.
w < 4 *****************************************************************
You can leave this part as is because it's already in the form that you want.
Put these two inequalities together and you get:
-3 < w and w < 4
Since w = w, these can be combined into:
-3 < w < 4
