Question 23220: I having a little difficulty in the following problems. I appreciate your help!
Solve the unknown variable:
1. 4(-1)(1-y)+8=0
2. 1-2(3-4)+y=-2y+8(1-1)
3. y/8=4+(y-2)/24

Answer by rapaljer(4671)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
1. 4(-1)(1-y)+8=0
-4(1-y) + 8 = 0
-4 + 4y + 8 = 0
4y + 4 = 0
4y = -4
y = -1

2. 1-2(3-4)+y=-2y+8(1-1)
Do parentheses first!
1-2(-1) + y = -2y + 8(0)
1+2 + y = -2y
3 + y -y = -2y -y
3 = -3y
Divide by -3:
y=-1

3.
Multiply both sides by the LCD which is 24:
