Question 231440: 4(2r+8)=88
Answer by rapaljer(4671) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
This is a classic equation solving problem in which you "undo" what was done to the variable. In this case, start on the OUTSIDE of the problem and "undo" each operation:
4(2r+8)=88
Undo multiplication by 4 by dividing each side by 4.
Next, undo the addition of 8 by subtracting 8 from each side:
Finally, undo the multiplication by 2 by dividing both sides by 2:
If you need help with Equation Solving, I have a some resources on my website!!Do a "Bing" or "Google" search for my last name "Rapalje". Near the top of the search list, find "Rapalje Homepage", and near the top of my Homepage, look for the link "Basic, Intermediate, and College Algebra: One Step at a Time." Choose "Basic Algebra", and look for "Chapter 1" for "Section 1.08 Equation Solving". My own students ALL thought my explanations were a LOT easier than the traditional explanations.
