Question 211632: what is the scientific notation for 8910?
Answer by gypsy1274(9)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
8910 = 8.91 x
You didn't say to round so I kept all the numbers. The exponent is the number of places that the decimal point was moved. If you notice, I moved the decimal 3 places to the left.
The direction you are moving the decimal determines the sign of the exponent. If the exponent is negative, the number is very small. (Ex. 0.000000012 would be 1.2 x If the exponent is positive, then the number is large as in the case of your example.
