: I can't seem to wrap my mind around how to round an equation at the end of a problem.
Here is the problem: and below I will show my work. The online assistant equates the answer to 13hours That is where I am stuck I am not sure how to come up with that answer.
Problem:
T(x) = 510/x+55 + 230/x+70
The steps I have taken:
1: 510(x+70)/(x+55)(x+70) + 230(x+55)/(x+55)(x+70)
2: 510(x+70)+230(x+55)/(x+55)(x+70)
3: (510x+35700)+(230x+12650)/(x+55)(x+70)
4: 740x+48,350/(x+55)(x+70)
5: 10(74x+4,8350)/(x+55)(x+70)
6: replace x with t(0) 10(74(0)+4835)/(0+55)(0+70)
Now I am supposed to round this. The answer is T=13 Im not sure how to get from step 6 to the answer please help!
Thanks in advance.

What are your complete instructions? Are you plugging in x=0 and evaluating for T? If you are, then you're not going to get T=13 as an answer. So are you supposed to plug in some other value of x? Or are you trying to solve for x? You need to post the whole problem (including the question/instructions).

1: 510(x+70)/(x+55)(x+70) + 230(x+55)/(x+55)(x+70)
2: 510(x+70)+230(x+55)/(x+55)(x+70)
3: (510x+35,700)+(230x+12,650)/(x+55)(x+70)
4: 740x+48,350/(x+55)(x+70)
5: 10(74x+4,835)/(x+55)(x+70)
6: replace x with t(0) 10(74(0)+4,835)/(0+55)(0+70)
7: 10*4,835/3,850=48,350/3,850=12.558 ROUNDING UP TO 13.

Answer by rapaljer(4671)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
T(x) = 510/x+55 + 230/x+70

If all you need is T(0), then you did NOT need to do all those steps! In the original expression, substitute x=0, and you get
T(0) = 510/(0+55) + 230/(0+70)
T(0) = 510/55 +230/70

Use a calculator and I get 12.558, which rounds up to 13.
