8x^(4)-6x^(2)-5=0
-----------------------
Factor the left side:
8x^4 - 10x^2 + 4x^2 - 5 = 0
Factor the 1st 2 and the last two terms separately to get:
2x^2(4x^2-5)+ (4x^2-5) = 0
(4x^2-5)(2x^2+1) = 0
Solve for "x":
4x^2 = 5 or 2x^2+1 = 0
x^2 = 5/4 or x^2 = -1/2
x = +/-sqrt(5/4) or x = +-isqrt(1/2)
