Help! Math is not my strong point at all and I'm so lost. This is my final question and I cannot find proportion anywhere and don't even know where to begin.

A proportion is simply the equality of two ratios and a ratio is simply a fraction.

For your problem:

In words, 0.7615 Dollars is to 1.0000 Euros as 2500 dollars is to some as yet unknown quantity of Euros.

You solve a proportion by first cross-multiplying, that is, you multiply the denominator on one side of the proportion times the numerator on the other side and set that equal to the numerator on the first side times the denominator on the second side, thus:

Then divide by the coefficient on the unknown,

Now just use your calculator to do the arithmetic. You should round to the nearest hundredth because the smallest US unit of currency is 1 cent.

Notice that when I set up the proportion at the start, that the numerators were both in Dollars and the denominators were both in Euros. I could have set it up the other way, Euros on top and Dollars on the bottom. The results would be the same.

Proof of this is left as an exercise for the student.
