solving the given equation for y gives ___ y = (1/4)x + 1
so the slope of the given line is 1/4

the slopes of two perpendicular lines are negative reciprocals of each other
so the slope of the new line is -4

using point-slope ___ y - 2 = -4(x - 10) __ or __ y = -4x + 42
