Question 19670: the problem:
7n + (-1)
__________ = 8
8
This is a problem in my daughter's math book... I don't know how to do algebra. Can you explain how to do this and what the answer is? Thank you.

Answer by xcentaur(357)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!

Take the 8 from the denominator over to the right hand side
on the left it was division,when you take it over to the right it becomes multiplication
so we get,

on multiplying we get,

now take the -1 over to the other side
when you take it to the other side,plus becomes minus,minus becomes plus
so we get,

add it up,

n=65/7

Thats your answer

remember that when you take something to the other side of an '=' sign,say from the left to the right,whatever it was turns oppposite.meaning something that was addition becomes subtraction on the other side,division becomes multiplication,and so on.

Hope this helps,
