x^2 - 2x + 1 = 24
x^2 -2x - 23 = 0
Use the quadratic formula to get:
x = [2 +- sqrt(4 - 4*1*-23)]/2
x = [2 +- sqrt(4 + 92)]/2
x = [2 +- sqrt(96)]/2
x = [2 +- 4sqrt(6)]/2
x = 1 + 2sqrt(6) or x = 1 - 2sqrt(6)
