the same applies to polynomials

step (1)(3x^2) step (2) (-10x) step (3)(+40)

___________3x2 -10x +40____-124/(x+3)____________________
x+3 ! 3x^3 -x^2 +10x -4
- ( 3x^3 +9x^2) step (1) (3x^2 *(x+3))
________________
-10x^2 +10x
- ( -10x^2 -30x) step(2) ( -10x *(x+3))
___________________
+40x -4
- (+40x +120) step(3) (40 * (x+3))
_________________
-124

restating (3x^3-x^2+10x-4) / (x+3) = 3x^2 -10x +40 - (124) /( x+3)

check ( 3x^2 -10x +40) * ( x+3) = 3x^3 -x^2 +10x +120 + rem of (-124) ok
note we just could not get it to space well, if you rewrite with spacing it might be better
