Sandy has $3.25 in change. She has five more dimes than quarters but twice as many nickels as dimes. Express the given information as an algebraic equation and simplify each side of the equation. [You are not required to solve the problem.] You must name the variable used in the equation.
--------------
Let the number of dimes be "x" worth 10x cents.
Then # of quarters is "x-5" worth 25(x-5) cents
And # of nickels = "2x" worth 5(2x) cents
--------------------------------
Value Equation:
10x + 25(x-5) + 5(2x) = 325 cents
