Let x=Larry's age
3x-1=Jack's age (one year less 3 times as old as larry)
6*(3x-1)+5*x=63
Solving for x:
18x-6+5x=63
23x-6=63
23x=69
x=3
Larry is 3 yrs old, and Jack is 8 yrs old
